Mr Arshad Malik is a senior, highly qualified, and experienced Consultant Colorectal Surgeon. He is one of the few colorectal surgeons in the country with specialist qualifications in the sub-specialty of colorectal surgery. Demonstrating exceptional clinical knowledge, he topped the European Board of Coloproctology examinations and holds the distinction of being the first surgeon in Europe to be awarded the prestigious Lars Påhlman award for outstanding performance.
His higher surgical training was completed through the Cambridge Rotation, including Addenbrookes and Norwich Hospitals. Prior to this, he underwent higher surgical training in India, where he topped his postgraduate examinations to enter the training programme and was awarded a merit scholarship. Mr Malik further refined his expertise through advanced colorectal fellowships at internationally recognised colorectal centres, including Basingstoke and the Christie Hospital in Manchester.
Beyond his clinical work, Mr Malik is deeply committed to medical education and leadership. He trains higher surgical trainees, including providing expert colonoscopy training. He serves as a clinical tutor at the University of Edinburgh, teaching postgraduate surgeons in their specialist qualification programme, and supervises postdoctoral research leading to Masters in Surgery qualifications. His leadership capabilities were recognised with the award of Chief Residency by Health Education East of England at Addenbrookes Hospital, which led to the successful completion of a Healthcare Leadership programme at the renowned Churchill College, University of Cambridge.
In his clinical practice, Mr Malik provides personalised cancer care services for colonic and rectal cancers, utilising advanced laparoscopic and transanal techniques. He manages a wide spectrum of benign anorectal conditions, including haemorrhoids, fistulas, fissures, pilonidal sinuses, and pelvic floor disorders. As a BCSP and JAG accredited endoscopist, he also provides expert colonoscopy, polypectomy, and gastroscopy services. Outside of his professional commitments, Mr Malik enjoys hiking, cricket, tennis, and spending quality time with his family.
